Spices & Seasonings FAQs
What kinds of spices and seasonings does Sipsy sell?
The good kind.
Sipsy carries spices, herbs and seasoning blends made for people who actually want their food to taste like something. You’ll find familiar favorites alongside ingredients and flavor combinations inspired by places, cultures and things I discover along the way.
Some will become staples. Some may only show up for a season.
Mind your business. Season your food. Sip your tea.
What’s the difference between a spice and a seasoning blend?
A spice may be a single ingredient—like sumac, peppercorns or turmeric. A seasoning blend combines multiple spices, herbs and other ingredients to create a particular flavor profile.
Sipsy carries both because sometimes you want to build the flavor yourself, and sometimes you want me to do some of the work for you.
Where does Sipsy source its spices?
From trusted suppliers and regions around the world—and increasingly, from the places I discover as I travel, taste and learn.
Origin matters. So when a particular region, ingredient or story is important to what you’re tasting, I’ll tell you about it.
Basically, if I find something good enough to bring home, there’s a chance you’ll eventually see it at Sipsy.
How should I use Sipsy seasonings?
Consider the suggestions on each product a starting point, not a set of rules.
Meat. Seafood. Vegetables. Rice. Marinades. Sauces. Whatever you're cooking.
Taste as you go and use as much—or as little—as makes sense for you.
Season boldly.
How much seasoning should I use?
That depends on the seasoning and what you're making.
Some spices are subtle. Others will kick the door down with very little encouragement.
Each Sipsy blend will include suggested uses when helpful, but start small, taste and add more until it's right.
You can always add more. Taking it back out gets...complicated.
Do Sipsy seasoning blends contain salt?
Some do. Some don't.
Ingredients are listed on each product page so you know exactly what you're buying. If salt is part of a blend, you'll see it there.
Are your spices and seasonings spicy?
Spiced and spicy are two very different things.
Not everything at Sipsy brings heat. Some blends are savory, smoky, bright, earthy, aromatic, citrusy or even a little sweet.
When something does bring the heat, we'll let you know.
How should I store my spices?
Keep them tightly sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
And please don't store the good spices directly above your stove. I know it's convenient. The heat and steam do not care. 😂
How long do spices stay fresh?
Spices don't suddenly become terrible on a specific day, but their aroma and flavor can fade over time.
For the best experience, keep them properly sealed and pay attention to the product's best-by information. If you open a jar and can barely smell what used to knock you over, that's usually your cue.
What if I have a food allergy?
Please review the full ingredient and allergen information on the individual product page before purchasing or consuming a Sipsy product.
If you have a known or severe allergy and have questions about a particular product, contact me before ordering. I can provide available product information, but Sipsy cannot provide individualized medical or allergy advice.
Will the same seasonings always be available?
Nope.
Some blends and spices will earn permanent real estate. Others may be seasonal, limited, or something I found that I couldn't resist sharing.
That's part of Sipsy.
